This supportive, eight-week, in-person workshop invites participants to commit to a deadline, submit a piece of writing, and receive comprehensive feedback (oral and written) from both the instructor and the group. Together, we will write, revise, and explore short fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid forms; practice and interrogate the craft of narrative; and read a variety of published authors. Each week, we’ll discuss craft, learn from writers at the height of their careers, and workshop two participants’ pieces in depth. Class members will serve as thoughtful advocates for one another’s work, offering engaged, constructive responses and concrete suggestions for revision. This workshop is ideal for writers of fiction and nonfiction seeking accountability, structure, and rigorous, supportive feedback.

About the instructor:
Shelby Kinney-Lang is a recipient of the 2023 O. Henry Prize for Short Fiction. His work has appeared in ZYZZYVA, Chicago Quarterly Review, Bellevue Literary Review, Witness, Santa Monica Review, Joyland, and elsewhere. He has an MFA in fiction from the University of California, Irvine.
